We threw a Jane Austen themed bridal shower for my best friend – and it turned out beautifully!

For decorations we had white seat covers with pink bows and a matching table cloth. A white pillar to showcase one of many white and pink flower arrangements. A wall sticker that displayed a love quote above the fireplace and a couple of card tables set up.

I also put together a picnic basket with tea sandwiches wrapped in wax paper tied with a bow, silverware, poundcake, grapes, a bottle of sherry and some baby’s breath. And of course we had a display of lovely china tea cups to choose from. A selection of classical music and Jane Austen movie soundtracks played in the background.

Now the most important part of any party: the food. Martha Stewart’s Baking book was my bible and I spent a day churning out scones, pound cake and my masterpiece: Petits Fours (with home made almond paste). We also made Jane Austen themed labels for many of the food items. This was our menu:

-Sense and Sensibility Scones: Fennel & Golden Raisin with herb butter

-Sense and Sensibility Scones: Oat and Apricot with devon cream and jam

-Mr. Darcy’s Stuffed Mushrooms

-Persuasion Petits Fours

-Emma’s Cheese Tray

-Mansfield Park Tea Sandwiches:
-Smoked salmon w/capers on pumpernickel
-Cucumber, watercress and creamed cheese
-Rosemary chicken
-Egg salad
-Tuna

-Elizabeth Bennett’s Shortbread Cookies (heart shaped)

-Victorian dried cherries & raspberries

-Pride & Prejudice Poundcake

-Jane Austen tea selection

For games we had a Jane Austen quiz and had a matchmaker game – a tag is placed on your back and you can only ask “yes” or “no” questions to figure out who you are, and then you have to go around and find your famous mate. For prizes we had tea cups and Jane Austen novels wrapped up with pretty ribbons.
